This wine comes from 60 year old vines and is a blend of 60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mouvedre and 10% Cinsault grown in the village of Lirac on the opposite side of the Rhone from Chateau Neuf de Pape. The fruit is fermented in concrete then finished in large format oak barrels. This style of Rhone red is more fruit driven with lovely plums, berries, spice and vanilla on the nose and on the palate again with that intense ripe plums, blackberries, cherries, plums and fruit cake spices but savoury with chalky tannins, A very complex interesting wine but if you can keep your hands off will benefit from aging.
Delicious served with bbq meat or rich tomato and eggplant dishes
